This little-known attraction near Acomb in York is a retired (but fully restored to the way it looked in its final days in 1991) Cold War nuclear blast monitoring station.

If a bomb went off, it was important to collect as much data about the blast as possible and relay it back to the people who needed it. This one was the headquarters of Royal Observer Corps Section 20.

It's a fascinating tour and, even better, photography (without flash) is permitted inside!
