The first attraction on my list for my holiday being a tourist in my own city was the Gorton Monastery.

This is an amazing 19th century Franciscan friary that towers over an ordinary housing estate in western Gorton (4 minutes by train from Manchester Piccadilly). It has recently been restored and reopened as a conference centre.
