Geek
I am a geek. I admit it. I spend more of my time sitting at a computer screen than anything else.
I am very lucky to be able to do geeky things for a living, and I also enjoy a number of geeky things at home.
- OS? Debian and Ubuntu GNU/Linux.
- Editor? Emacs.
- Language? Ruby and Perl in equal measures. This site is written in Ruby on Rails.
- Browser? Firefox (or Swiftfox).
- Geek sites? BBspot, Digg, The Register and Slashdot.
Below is my Geek Code, although the code is not particularly relevant to the world now.

Geek politics
I am a supporter of the left-wing movements in the geek world, including the following things (which I may write more about when I can be arsed):
- Free software and open source
- Web standards
- Creative Commons
- Social software/web 2.0 - especially wiki.
- Movements against software patents and DRM.

Yes, I love Ruby. It represents everything that is enjoyable about programming. Remember that first and foremost I'm not a web developer and Ruby is an a Perl-beater even without Rails attached to it.
As for Web 2.0, it's been around for ages and will continue to be long after the buzzword dies out. It's social software that interests me, not the hype surrounding it.
