Does this exist?

Tue 17th February 2009, 7.19 pm

Right, I know a few people who read my blog are electronics geeks so I hope one of you can help me out.

I have a rather old but trusty Kenwood amplifier through which I pipe sound from my Freeview/DVD box, my Playstation and my computer. All are connected to it with standard RCA connectors (the "red and white" ones).

The amplifier has a massive control for volume on the front, but there is no remote control.

What is the simplest way I could control the volume output by my DVD player without getting up from my seat?

At first I thought of some sort of robotic device that turned the wheel for me. But this seems error-prone and more-than-likely quite unsightly.

Then I thought, if I could add some sort of potentiometer to the RCA connection itself that would work. Does such a thing (a remote-controlled potentiometer with RCA connectors in and out) exist? And if not, how difficult would it be to make one?
